Panax Ginseng

Other Names:

Asian ginseng, Chinese red ginseng

What is panax ginseng?

Panax ginseng is a plant that grows in Korea, northeastern China and far eastern Siberia. The root of the plant is the part that is used for its medicinal properties and has been used for thousands of years in Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is thought to improve memory as well as boost the immune system and increase energy.

Health Benefits:

Cognitive Function

There is some evidence that panax ginseng has a beneficial effect on cognitive performance. One study of volunteers found that single doses of the ginseng showed cognitive improvements, although the mechanism in how it improved the performance is not known. It is thought to be related to the gylcaemic properties of some panax species.

General Well-Being

Panax ginseng is often referred to as an overall well-being medication as it affects several areas of the body, including the immune system, reproductive system and neurological system. It has been traditionally used to help fight stress, lower blood sugar and help regulate moods.

History:

In Korea, China and Japan panax ginseng has been held with great importance for over 2000 years. According to Chinese medicine the root fortifies and prolongs life, cools fever, supports the lungs, opens the heart, increases knowledge and is a panacea for all illnesses.

As panax ginseng is thought to resemble the human form, it is believed that the spirit of the mountain has sent mankind his son in the shape of a human-looking root to be their saviour. This could suggest why the name panax ginseng is loosely translated into ‘all-healing man root’.

Typical Uses:

We suggest taking 1 to 4 capsules of our Panax Ginseng 80% Ginsenosides spread out during the day, or as directed by a healthcare practitioner.
